Pholiota flavida
(Schaeff.) Singer

Study description
On decaying coniferous wood or woodchips on the ground, with a convex to flattened pileus 3 to 7 cm across, smooth (unlike most scaly congeners), viscid in wet weather, cream-coloured adnate lamellae, a cylindrical flexuous yellowish stipe, with a pleasant fungal odour and sweet taste.
Pileipellis an ixocutis of gelatinized cylindrical hyphae 2.5 to 5 µm wide, hyaline or with faint ochraceous intracellular pigment, thin-walled, overlying a more compact layer of much broader hyphae 5 to 14 µm wide containing abundant yellowish intracellular pigment; both septate with clamp connections.
Cheilocystidia subcylindrical, subfusiform to lageniform, 30 to 50 µm long, 6 to 12 µm wide, some with a yellowish apical resinous incrustation, often containing yellowish intracellular pigment.
Lamellar faces lacking chrysocystidia; scarce pleurocystidia present, similar to cheilocystidia, hyaline or with yellowish intracellular pigment.
Basidia clavate, short, 25 to 30 µm long, 6 to 8 µm wide, clamped at the base, predominantly 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, thick- and smooth-walled, yellowish-brown under the microscope, 6.5 to 8.5 µm long, 3.5 to 5 µm wide, with an inconspicuous eccentric apiculus at one end, a small germ pore at the opposite pole, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
