Pholiota aurivella
(Batsch) P.Kumm.

Study description
Fruiting in dense caespitose clusters on living tree trunks as well as stumps, with convex to flattened pilei having an undulating margin, 4 to 10 cm across, squamose surface, orange-brown, brown adnate to slightly emarginate lamellae, and a cylindrical, solid, fasciculate stipe, with a pleasant fungal odour and taste.
Pileipellis with an ixocutis of filamentous hyphae 2 to 5 µm wide, hyaline or containing yellowish-brown intracellular pigment, widely separated by gelatinization, septate with clamp connections; underlying hyphae more compact, up to 12 µm wide, septate with clamps.
Cheilocystidia clavate to fusiform, 30 to 45 µm long and 6 to 9 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia (chrysocystidia) clavate, with refractive inclusions, 20 to 30 µm long and 7 to 12 µm wide.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 30 to 35 µm long, 7 to 8 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, thick-walled, yellowish-brown under the microscope, 7.5 to 10 µm long, 4.5 to 6 µm wide, with an indistinct apiculus at one end and a germ pore at the opposite pole.
