Phanerochaete velutina
(DC.) P.Karst.

Study description
On decaying wood or bark, with a preference for broadleaved trees, with completely resupinate basidiomata, smooth to slightly rugose surface, velvety under magnification, cream-coloured, with a whitish, poorly delimited growth margin.
Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae hyaline, thick-walled, 3 to 5 µm wide, branched, often covered with surface crystals, septate without clamp connections.
Lamprocystidia thick-walled, 45 to 80 µm long, 9 to 17 µm wide, heavily encrusted in the upper half, projecting considerably beyond the basidia.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 28 to 35 µm long, 4 to 6 µm wide, simple-septate at the base (unclamped), 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 5 to 6.5 µm long, 2.5 to 3.5 µm wide, with an almost imperceptible apiculus at one end, containing lipid droplets (guttules) inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
