Phaeophlebiopsis ravenelii
(Cooke) Zmitr.

Study description
Saprophytic species on decaying wood of broadleaved trees, formerly known as Phlebiopsis ravenelii, with completely resupinate basidiomata, cream to pale brown, with a macroscopically smooth surface appearing velvety under a hand lens owing to dense cystidia, and a whitish, indeterminate growth margin.
Hyphal system monomitic, with hyaline hyphae, moderately thick-walled, tightly compacted in the subiculum, 2 to 5 µm wide, septate with simple septa (without clamp connections).
Lamprocystidia fusiform, thick-walled, 50 to 75 µm long, 10 to 16 µm wide, with the upper portion heavily encrusted with crystals.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 15 to 25 µm long, 4 to 5 µm wide, simple-septate at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 4 to 5.5 µm long, 2.5 to 3 µm wide, with an inconspicuous apiculus at one end, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2139/24.
