Peniophora proxima
Bres.

Study description
Species strictly restricted to common box (Buxus sempervirens), occurring on decaying decorticated wood on the ground, with resupinate basidiomata tightly adnate to the substrate, pinkish, smooth to slightly tuberculate surface, and a well-delimited margin.
Hyphal system monomitic; hyphae cylindrical, hyaline, thin- to moderately thick-walled in the subiculum, 2.5 to 5 µm wide, septate with clamp connections.
Lamprocystidia fusiform to lageniform, very thick-walled, 20 to 40 µm long, 5 to 7 µm wide, heavily encrusted with crystals over their surface.
Gloeocystidia scattered, cylindrical, flexuous, thin-walled, 40 to 70 µm long, 7 to 11 µm wide, with oily contents inside.
Basidia subcylindrical to clavate, 35 to 55 µm long, 7 to 9 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal to oblong, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 8 to 11 µm long, 5 to 6.5 µm wide, with an almost imperceptible apiculus at one end, containing small guttules inside, turning golden yellow in Melzer's reagent (inamyloid).
