Peniophora cinerea
(Pers.) Cooke

Study description
On decaying small fallen branches and twigs, showing a strong preference for Fagus or Corylus wood, with completely resupinate basidiomata having a bluish-grey hymenium, very thin (up to 0.1 mm), smooth to faintly tuberculate surface, and a well-delimited margin.
Hyphal system monomitic, lacking an extensive subiculum; subhymenial hyphae difficult to observe, hyaline or with faint brownish intracellular pigment, thin- to moderately thick-walled, 2 to 5 µm wide, septate with clamp connections.
Lamprocystidia abundant, cylindrical to slightly tapered apically, 20 to 25 µm long, 8 to 10 µm wide, thick-walled, heavily encrusted with coarse crystals in their upper part.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 40 to 50 µm long, 5 to 6 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical to slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 7 to 9 µm long, 2 to 3 µm wide, with a lateral apiculus at one end, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
