Peniophora albobadia

Microscopía de Peniophora albobadia

Study description

A corticioid fungus forming entirely resupinate patches on decaying dead wood or fallen twigs on the ground, with a reddish-brown hymenium contrasting sharply with the whitish, determinate growth margin.

Hyphal system pseudodimitic: basal hyphae thick-walled, resembling skeletal hyphae but with clamped septa, 2.5 to 3 µm wide, arranged parallel and filled with chestnut-brown intracellular pigment; subhymenial hyphae hyaline, identical in width, septate with clamp connections.

Lamprocystidia abundant, conical, very thick-walled, 40 to 55 µm long, 9 to 15 µm wide, heavily encrusted with coarse crystals in their upper half.

Hymenium with abundant dendrohyphidia forming a dense layer among the basidia, thick-walled and brownish.

Basidia subclavate, difficult to observe owing to the dense dendrohyphidia, 25 to 30 µm long, 5 to 6 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.

Spores cylindrical, slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 7.5 to 10 µm long, 3.5 to 4 µm wide, with a lateral apiculus at one end, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
