Patellariopsis atrovinosa
(A.Bloxam ex Curr.) Dennis

Study description
An uncommon lignicolous ascomycete with sessile apothecia that are globose when fresh and flatten into discs 0.5–1 mm across when dry, featuring a blackish-purple hymenium and a pinkish margin.
Medullary excipulum of thin-walled textura intricata with disorderly interwoven hyphae.
Ectal excipulum of textura globulosa-angularis with thick-walled cells 8–15 µm in diameter, heavily packed with vinaceous-purple intracellular pigment.
Asci cylindrical-clavate, 8-spored, unitunicate, inoperculate, measuring 90–110 µm long by 10–15 µm wide, with biseriate to slightly irregular spore arrangement, and an amyloid apical ring in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, hyaline, septate, with slight apical swellings (3–4.5 µm wide), occasional bifurcations, scarcely or not projecting above the asci.
Ascospores fusiform with one flattened side to slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 19–28 µm long by 3.5–5 µm wide, with 3 inconspicuous septa and abundant oil droplets inside.
