Oudemansiella melanotricha
(Dörfelt) M.M.Moser

Study description
Until recently known as Xerula melanotricha, with a convex to flattened pileus 2–8 cm in diameter, greyish-brown and densely velutinous-hispid, adnate to emarginate lamellae, and a cylindrical, rooting (radicating) stipe slightly swollen in the lower half, with its entire surface densely covered in minute dark brown hairs.
Hymeniform pileipellis, with clavate to vesiculose cells 30–80 µm long by 15–35 µm wide, containing ochraceous-brown intracellular pigment.
Hairs (setae) present on both the pileus and stipe surfaces, very abundant, very thick-walled, brownish under the microscope, up to 1.5 mm long, 20–30 µm wide at the base.
Cheilocystidia not observed; described in literature as sparse, thin-walled, fusiform to lageniform.
Basidia clavate, 30–50 µm long by 10–14 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores globose to subglobose, hyaline, thin- to slightly thick-walled, measuring 10–12.5 µm long by 9–11 µm wide, with a hyaline apiculus at one end, granular contents inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
