Study description
Apothecia gregarious, ear-shaped, 1–2 cm across and 1.5–3 cm high, with an orange-brown to reddish-brown hymenium, slightly rugose exterior, and pale yellow basal tomentum and mycelium.
Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, with thin to moderately thick-walled interwoven hyphae 4–12 µm wide containing faint yellowish-brown intracellular pigment.
Ectal excipulum of thin-walled textura angularis with pale brown intracellular pigment, cells 10–35 µm long by 9–25 µm wide; outermost cells elongate into 2- to 3-celled hyphoid hairs 45–65 µm high, constricted at the septa, 8–12 µm wide.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, operculate, uniseriate, measuring 185–235 µm long by 10–12 µm wide, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, apically strongly curved to hooked, only slightly swollen at the apex (maximum width 2.5–3 µm), containing small yellowish-brown guttules inside.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, slightly asymmetrical, smooth, hyaline, thick-walled, measuring 10–12 µm long by 5.9–6.5 µm wide, containing two large oil guttules inside.
