Neofavolus alveolaris
(DC.) Sotome & T.Hatt.

Study description
Lignicolous species on hardwood, with a fan-shaped (flabelliform) pileus 2–7 cm across, yellowish-brown, scaly surface, large pores 1–3 mm across, elongated rhomboid to hexagonal (alveolate), and a lateral or distinctly eccentric, usually very short stipe.
Cuticular hyphae (pileipellis) filiform, agglutinated, smooth, hyaline or with brown intracellular pigment, 2–3 µm wide, septate with simple septa (clampless).
Cystidia absent from both the pore edges and tube interiors.
Basidia clavate, 20–40 µm long by 5–9 µm wide, without basal clamps (simple base), generally 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical-ellipsoidal to slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 7.5–10 µm long by 2.9–3.5 µm wide, with very faint granular content inside (almost homogeneous), inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
