Study description
Coastal species occurring on driftwood washed ashore after floating in the sea, with stromata up to 2 cm long, bearing perithecia arranged linearly or in small groups, 0.4–0.6 mm in diameter, virtually black, with well-defined papillate ostioles.
Special thanks to Antonio Couceiro (Necho) for providing the material for this study.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, with spores arranged in a single file or only slightly overlapping (uniseriate), short-stipitate, total length 80–105 µm by 7–8 µm wide, with a disc- or plate-like amyloid apical apparatus 1.8–2.1 µm wide by only 1.3–1.5 µm high.
Paraphyses scarce, hyaline, filiform, fairly wide, projecting considerably above the asci.
Ascospores cylindrical-ellipsoidal, pale brown with greenish tints under the microscope, measuring 9.5–12 µm long by 4–5.5 µm wide, with an inconspicuous germ slit (described in literature as straight and up to 4 µm long).
Herbarium material available: JTP2024/23.
