Nectria pseudocinnabarina
Rossman

Study description
Tropical species very similar to Nectria cinnabarina, with smaller perithecia (only 0.20–0.35 mm across), intense orange-red, displaying a pronounced apical cupulate depression upon drying (unlike N. cinnabarina), occurring in clusters of numerous individuals on decaying dead wood of an undetermined tropical hardwood.
Ascoma wall hyphae of textura angularis with a pseudoparenchymatous appearance: outer layer 20–34 µm thick with heavily pigmented walls up to 1.5 µm thick; middle layer 7–15 µm thick of textura globulosa with brown intracellular pigment; and an inner layer 8–15 µm thick formed by thin-walled hyaline hyphae of textura prismatica. All layers turn bluish-purple in 10% KOH.
Asci cylindrical-clavate, measuring 50–85 µm long by 9–14 µm wide, with biseriate to slightly irregular spore arrangement, bearing an inconspicuous apical ring, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Ascospores ellipsoidal to fusiform, smooth- and slightly thick-walled, measuring 10–15 µm long by 3.5–5 µm wide, 1-septate, with faint longitudinal striations that are difficult to resolve under the optical microscope.
