Mycetinis scorodonius
(Fr.) A.W.Wilson & Desjardin

Study description
Formerly known as Marasmius scorodonius, with a garlic odour, growing in coniferous woods (Picea or Pinus) on calcareous soil, with a flattened pileus bearing an obtuse umbo, 1–2.5 cm across, pinkish-brown, white, adnate and anastomosing lamellae, and a hollow, cylindrical dark reddish-brown stipe.
Cellular (hymeniform) cuticle (pileipellis), formed by globose to pyriform, smooth, thick-walled hyphae measuring 20–40 µm long by 15–25 µm wide, with faint brown intracellular pigment.
Cheilocystidia clavate, measuring 20–25 µm long by 10–18 µm wide, with coarse, cylindrical, simple or branched apical protuberances up to 10 µm long by 1–2 µm wide, giving them a coralloid appearance.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 30–38 µm long by 5–7 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, almond-shaped, with a pointed end where the apiculus is located, measuring 7–10 µm long by 3.5–5 µm wide, with faint granular content inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2251/24.
