Study description

A striking species developing on decaying wood of broadleaf trees, with a conical to convex pileus 1–2.5 cm across, pinkish-brown with a whitish margin, white adnate lamellae, a cylindrical, hollow stipe of bright yellow colour contrasting with the rest, and a raphanoid odour and taste.

Cuticle (pileipellis) formed by parallel hyphae 2–6 µm wide, topped by very abundant subglobose to cylindrical hyphal segments with swellings, 6–23 µm long by 5–14 µm wide, septate and clamped.

Hyphae of the outer layer of the stipe 2.5–3.5 µm wide, with scattered coarse excrescences.

Cheilocystidia fusiform to ventricose, measuring 30–60 µm long by 7–15 µm wide.

Pleurocystidia scarce, scattered, identical in morphology and dimensions to cheilocystidia.

Basidia clavate, 25–35 µm long by 6–8 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.

Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 8–11.5 µm long by 5–6 µm wide, with an inconspicuous apiculus at one end, containing oil droplets inside, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.

Herbarium material available: JTP2210/24.
