Study description

Lignicolous species on broadleaf wood, especially beech or oak, with a conical to campanulate pileus just over 2 cm across, greyish-brown, a cylindrical hollow stipe of grey colour with pronounced violaceous tints that are more marked towards the lower part, and with abundant whitish fibrils at the base.

Cuticle (pileipellis) formed by cylindrical hyphae arranged more or less parallel, 2–6 µm wide, with abundant, heavily branched cylindrical excrescences (diverticulate).

Hyphae of the cortical layer of the stipe with scattered short excrescences 1–4 µm long.

Cheilocystidia very abundant, rendering the lamellar edge practically sterile, subglobose to vesiculose, clavate, measuring 20–45 µm long by 15–20 µm wide, covered with warts or short, inconspicuous finger-like digitations.

Pleurocystidia scattered, similar in morphology and dimensions to cheilocystidia.

Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 25–35 µm long by 7–9 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.

Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 7–9 µm long by 4.5–6 µm wide, with a hyaline apiculus at one end, granular contents inside, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.

Herbarium material available: JTP1993/23 and JTP2214/24.
