Meruliopsis faginea
Volobuev & Ismailov

Study description
Species associated with decaying wood of Fagaceae, such as Fagus or Quercus, with resupinate basidiomes of waxy to coriaceous texture that tend to crack when dry, a surface with shallow, poorly defined wrinkles and pores, ochraceous to whitish with a reddish-brown base.
Monomitic hyphal system, composed solely of generative hyphae, hyaline, moderately thick-walled, interwoven, 3–6 µm wide, branched, septate, mostly with simple septa (clampless).
Cystidia cylindrical, cystidioid hyphae (leptocystidia), measuring 20–35 µm long by 5–8 µm wide.
Basidia clavate, 15–20 µm long by 3–4 µm wide, apparently without basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal to oblong, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 3.5–5 µm long by 1.8–2.4 µm wide, with an inconspicuous apiculus at one end, containing small oil droplets inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2467/24.
