Meottomyces dissimulans
(Berk. & Broome) Vizzini

Study description
Species associated with organic litter of broadleaf trees (the pine needles visible in the images are from adjacent pine trees), with a convex to flattened pileus only 2–3.5 cm across, brown with a whitish margin, adnate to decurrent, distant lamellae, and a cylindrical stipe bearing a fugacious whitish ring in the upper third.
Cuticle (pileipellis) composed of cylindrical, densely interwoven hyphae 6–20 µm wide with brown intracellular pigment, overlain by a thin ixocutis layer of very narrow hyphae (only 2–4 µm wide) widely separated by gelification.
Caulocystidia present especially in the upper part of the stipe, cylindrical, sinuous, with rounded apices.
Cheilocystidia very abundant, rendering the lamellar edge practically sterile, polymorphic: cylindrical, flexuous, subcapitate, fusiform, etc., measuring 40–60 µm long by 6–10 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia absent.
Basidia clavate, 25–30 µm long by 5–7 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth- and moderately thick-walled, yellowish-ochre under the microscope, measuring 8–10.5 µm long by 5.5–6.5 µm wide, with an almost imperceptible apiculus at one end and a minute central germ pore at the opposite end.
