Autumnal species occurring in woodland clearings or roadsides, with a convex to flattened pileus retaining a central umbo, 4–7 cm across, dark greyish-brown, whitish to slightly greyish lamellae, a cylindrical stipe paler than the pileus, a slightly farinaceous odour, and a sweet taste.
Cuticle (pileipellis) formed by cylindrical, thin-walled, densely interwoven hyphae 4–8 µm wide, with abundant brown intracellular pigment, septate, with simple septa (non-clamped).
Cheilocystidia urticoid, with a broad base and a long slender neck, measuring 35–50 µm long by 6–11 µm wide at the basal part, with crystalline apical encrustations.
Basidia clavate, 21–30 µm long by 8–10 µm wide, with a simple base, 4-spored.
Spores subglobose to ellipsoidal, thin-walled and verrucose, measuring 6.5–8 µm long by 4.5–6 µm wide, with an eccentric hyaline apiculus at one end, containing oil droplets inside, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
