Macrolepiota fuliginosa
(Barla) Bon

Study description
General: Formerly identified as Macrolepiota rhodosperma, now synonymized with Macrolepiota fuliginosa, occurring in both coniferous and broadleaved woods, pileus with a distinct brown umbo and sparse fibrous scales over a white ground, stipe faintly banded, context reddening upon bruising, movable double ring, sweet taste.
Pileipellis: Cutis of cylindrical hyphae 5-10 µm wide with pale brown intracellular pigment, septate with simple septa (clamp connections absent).
Cheilocystidia: Abundant, polymorphous (clavate, vesiculose, pyriform, lobed), rendering the lamellar edge virtually sterile, 20-49 x 8-13 µm.
Pleurocystidia: Absent.
Basidia: Clavate, 34-48 x 9.5-14 µm, base simple (clampless), 4-spored.
Spores: Ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thick-walled, 13-17 x 8.5-10.5 µm, with an eccentric apiculus, an apical germ pore, strongly dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent.
