Macrocybe titans
(H.E.Bigelow & Kimbr.) Pegler, Lodge & Nakasone

Study description
General: Giant tropical agaric, pileus reaching up to 50 cm (exceptionally nearly 1 meter in diameter), greyish-brown with a whitish margin, developing on rich decaying organic matter in pastures or lawns; collection studied fruited at the base of a tropical tree stump (likely Ficus sp.).
Pileipellis: Cutis formed by densely interwoven filamentous hyphae 3-5 µm wide with brownish parietal pigment, septate with clamp connections.
Lamellar edge: Fertile, lacking differentiated cystidia.
Lamellar trama: Regular.
Pleurocystidia: Scarce sterile pseudocystidioid elements barely projecting beyond the basidia.
Basidia: Cylindric-clavate, 26-35 x 6-9 µm, with basal clamp connections, 4-spored.
Spores: Subspherical, ovoid to ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 6-8 x 4.5-5.5 µm, with an eccentric apiculus, containing a large oil guttule, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium voucher: JTP2236/24.
