Lyophyllum rhopalopodium
Clémençon

Study description
General: Uncommon species with context blackening slowly upon handling, pileus convex to plano-convex with an undulate margin, brown, stipe prominently bulbous-thickened at the base, taste sweetish, and characterized by triangular to rhomboid spores.
Pileipellis: Cutis composed of filamentous hyphae 3-7 µm wide, arranged more or less parallel, partly hyaline, mixed with hyphae containing brown intracellular pigment, septate with clamp connections.
Lamellar edge: Fertile, lacking differentiated cystidia.
Lamellar trama: Regular.
Basidia: Clavate, 30-40 x 8-10 µm, containing siderophilous granules, with basal clamp connections, predominantly 4-spored with occasional 2-spored basidia.
Spores: Triangular to rhomboid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 6.5-8.5 x 5.5-8 µm, with granular contents, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Notes: Closely resembles Lyophyllum transforme, which differs in its cylindrical unswollen stipe and larger, more elongated spores (9-10 µm long).
Herbarium voucher: JTP2275/24.
