Study description

Ascomata: Blackish globose ascomata immersed in host tissue, with an elongated, slightly pointed apical slit-like ostiole.

Excipulum: Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, composed of hyaline filamentous hyphae 2-3.5 µm wide; underlying ectal excipulum formed by broader polyhedral cells with short septa, up to 15 µm wide.

Asci: Cylindrical, 8-spored, uniseriate, bitunicate, 90-140 x 10-13 µm, spore-bearing portion occupying up to 90% of total ascus length, base simple (without croziers), inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.

Ascospores: Ellipsoid to fusiform, thick-walled, muriform (mostly with 5 transverse septa and 1 to 4 longitudinal septa), constricted at septa, pale brown with greenish tones under the microscope, filled with densely granulose contents without guttules.
