Lobaria pulmonaria
(L.) Hoffm.

Study description
General: Large foliose lichen (tree lungwort), bright green when wet, deeply reticulate-foveolate, with disc-shaped orange to reddish apothecia 2-5 mm diam., margins slightly wavy and well delimited, elevated above the thallus.
Asci: 8-spored, 80-100 x 16-22 µm, spores biseriate occupying nearly the entire ascus, apical ring amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses: Filiform, hyaline, septate, 1.5-2.5 µm wide, apical cell swollen up to 5 µm and capped with an orange-brown amorphous pigment mass.
Ascospores: Cylindrical to fusiform, 21-32 x 5-7.5 µm, hyaline, slightly thick-walled, initially 1-septate, developing up to 3 transverse septa at maturity, densely filled with oil guttules.
