Leucogaster nudus
(Hazsl.) Hollós

Study description
General: Hypogeous fungus, globose to irregular, up to 3 cm in diameter, peridial surface smooth, white, darkening upon handling, fruity odor; in cross section the gleba reveals gelatinous cavities where basidia generate spores.
Peridium: Outer peridial hyphae filamentous, arranged parallel, up to 5 µm wide, with abundant granular pigment and yellowish-brown amorphous masses; inner peridium composed of shorter and wider cells forming a pseudoparenchymatous layer 5-15 µm wide.
Basidia: Pyriform to clavate, 15-25 x 8-14 µm, with a long pedicel, 4-spored.
Spores: Globose to subglobose, 10-14 µm in diameter excluding ornamentation, hyaline to faintly yellowish, ornamented with prominent ridges forming a complete reticulum, enclosed in a gelatinous sheath, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium voucher: 2557/25.
