Leptosphaeria modesta
Rabenh.

Study description
Ecology: Saprotrophic on dead herbaceous stems, producing minute black ascomata.
Ascomata: Subglobose to ovoid with a mucronate central papilla, 150-250 µm diam., black.
Peridium: Cells subspherical to polygonal, very thick-walled, containing dense blackish-brown intracellular pigment.
Asci: Cylindric-clavate, bitunicate, 8-spored, 60-70 x 14-17 µm, biseriate to slightly irregular spore arrangement, arising from simple basal septa without croziers, inamyloid in Melzer's.
Hamethecium: Composed of hyaline, septate, richly branched pseudoparaphyses embedded in a gelatinous matrix.
Ascospores: Fusiform with tapered ends, hyaline, moderately thick-walled, predominantly 4-septate with constrictions at septa, containing numerous lipid droplets of variable size.
Herbarium voucher: JTP2657/25.
