Lepiota xanthophylla
P.D.Orton

Study description
General: Inhabiting both coniferous and deciduous forests, pileus covered with brown scales over a cream background, stipe scaly with brown scales especially on lower half, lamellae conspicuously sulfur-yellow, odor fungal, taste sweetish to slightly bitter.
Pileipellis: Cutis composed of parallel cylindrical hyphae giving rise to emergent terminal elements up to 350 µm long and 12-20 µm wide, with abundant yellowish-brown intracellular pigment, septate and partially clamped.
Cheilocystidia: Subcylindrical, clavate to pyriform, 20-40 x 8-15 µm.
Pleurocystidia: Absent.
Basidia: Clavate, very short, 20-26 x 6-8 µm, with basal clamp connections, 4-spored.
Spores: Cylindric-ellipsoid, 6.5-9 x 3.5-4.5 µm, flattened on one side with a lateral apiculus, smooth, hyaline, moderately thick-walled, dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent.
