Lentomitella cirrhosa
(Pers.) Réblová

Study description
Substrate: Saprotrophic on decaying decorticated wood.
Ascomata: Perithecia globose to subglobose, black, 0.3-0.5 mm in diameter, with a long ostiolar neck 1-2 mm long protruding from the wood surface.
Peridium: Composed of cells forming a textura angularis, thick-walled, with abundant dark brown intracellular pigment.
Asci: Cylindrical, uniseriate, 8-spored, 50-65 x 6-7.5 µm, apical apparatus with a refractive ring amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses: Filiform, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, septate, up to 10 µm wide at base and tapering progressively towards the apex (2.5-3 µm wide), projecting above the asci.
Ascospores: Ellipsoid to oblong, hyaline, mature spores with a single transverse septum, displaying fine longitudinal striations difficult to resolve under optical microscopy.
