Lactifluus vellereus
(Fr.) Kuntze

Study description
General: Associated with Fagus sylvatica, pileus infundibuliform with a velvety surface, latex white and unchanging, taste moderately acrid.
Pileipellis: Trichoderm with terminal hair-like hyphae, hyaline, moderately thick-walled, up to 700 µm long, 2-4 µm wide, responsible for the velvety appearance; underlying hyphae densely compacted, richly branched, with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia: Cylindrical to clavate, rounded at apex, 25-55 x 4-6 µm, with granular contents.
Pleurocystidia: Morphologically similar but larger, 40-100 x 5-8 µm.
Basidia: Clavate, 42-50 x 8-10 µm, base simple, 4-spored.
Spores: Subspherical to ellipsoid, with low warts up to 0.3 µm high grouped into short ridges, connected by very fine, almost imperceptible lines, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
