Lactarius uvidus
(Fr.) Fr.

Study description
General: Associated especially with holm oak and oak forests, with lamellae bruising violet upon handling, unchanging white latex when isolated but staining bruised context lilac-violet, and an acrid taste.
Pileipellis: Ixocutis formed by filamentous hyphae 2-5 µm wide, irregularly interwoven, richly branched, separated by gelatinization, containing pale brown intracellular pigment, septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia: Abundant, fusiform to lageniform, 30-65 x 6-10 µm, containing refractive granular contents.
Pleurocystidia: Similar in morphology but larger, 50-90 x 9-12 µm.
Basidia: Clavate, 40-60 x 11-13 µm, base simple, 4-spored.
Spores: Subspherical to ellipsoid, with ridges up to 1 µm high interconnected to form an incomplete reticulum, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
