Lactarius subdulcis
(Pers.) Gray

Study description
General: Characteristic of beech (Fagus sylvatica) forests, with unchanging white latex and a mild taste becoming slightly acrid.
Pileipellis: Composed of subglobose to ovoid cells 7-12 µm in diameter, giving rise to cylindrical terminal hyphae 4-5 µm wide.
Cheilocystidia: Fusiform, 25-40 x 4-7.5 µm.
Pleurocystidia: Similar in morphology but larger, 40-90 x 6-10 µm.
Basidia: Clavate, 35-50 x 10-12 µm, base simple, 2- or 4-spored.
Spores: Subspherical to ellipsoid, ornamented with warts connecting into irregular short ridges up to 1.5 µm high, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
