Lactarius salmonicolor
R.Heim & Leclair

Study description
General: Associated with montane conifers, especially fir (Abies alba), with bright orange latex turning vinaceous upon oxidation, and a very slightly bitter taste.
Pileipellis: Suprapellis an ixocutis composed of filamentous hyphae 2-7 µm wide, arranged more or less parallel to slightly interwoven, embedded in a thick gelatinous layer, with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia & Pleurocystidia: Fusiform to slightly lageniform, 45-80 x 6-9 µm, with dense granular contents.
Basidia: Clavate, 45-55 x 10-12 µm, base simple, 4-spored.
Spores: Subspherical to ellipsoid, with scattered warts connecting into short ridges up to only 0.5 µm high, partially interconnected, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
