Lactarius pyrogalus
(Bull.) Fr.

Study description
General: Associated with hazel (Corylus avellana), with white latex slowly turning cream with greenish hues, and an exceptionally intense, burning acrid taste.
Pileipellis: Filamentous cutis composed of hyaline hyphae arranged parallel to each other, 3-6 µm wide, septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia: Cylindrical to fusiform, 30-60 x 6-8 µm, with abundant granular contents.
Pleurocystidia: Similar in shape, 50-95 x 7-9 µm.
Basidia: Cylindric-clavate, 40-60 x 9-11 µm, base simple, 4-spored.
Spores: Ovoid to ellipsoid, with warts connecting into isolated ridges up to 1 µm high, never forming a reticulum, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium voucher: JTP2562/25.
