Lachnum subvirgineum
Baral

Study description
A lignicolous species infecting broadleaf wood, with white cup-shaped apothecia 1-1.5 mm in diameter, and short marginal hairs with widened apices.
Marginal hairs cylindrical, septate, 55-85 µm long and 3-4 µm wide, covered across their entire surface with fine granulations, with a widened, slightly capitate apex up to 6 µm wide.
Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, with hyaline, septate, thin-walled hyphae 3-6 µm wide.
Ectal excipulum with subglobose to prismatic, rectangular hyphae arranged in parallel chains, up to 20 µm wide.
Asci cylindric-clavate, 8-spored, with uniseriate to apically biseriate spore arrangement, 45-60 µm long and 3.5-5 µm wide, with basal croziers and an amyloid apical apparatus in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses lanceolate, 3-4.5 µm wide, exceeding the level of the asci by 4-12 µm.
Ascospores cylindric-fusiform, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with homogeneous internal content without guttules or granulations.
Very similar to its congener, Lachnum virgineum, the latter possessing longer marginal hairs without apical swellings.
