Jackrogersella cohaerens
(Pers.) L.Wendt, Kuhnert & M.Stadler

Study description
Globose stromata up to 5 mm across, with densely crowded blackish perithecia 0.5-0.7 mm in diameter, yielding a reddish extractable pigment in KOH, with its anamorph fruiting over the stromata as a velvety greyish-brown layer. On wood of Fagus sylvatica.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, uniseriate, 110-170 µm long and 5-6 µm wide, with all spores concentrated in the upper half of the ascus, long-pedicellate, with an amyloid discoid apical apparatus.
Interascal paraphysis-like elements filiform, hyaline, with tapered apices.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, inequilateral, dark brown under the microscope, smooth-walled, with a straight germ slit and a perispore dehiscent in KOH.
Anamorph with a Virgariella-like conidiogenous structure: conidiogenous cells 15-30 µm long and 2-3 µm wide, producing ellipsoidal, hyaline, thin- to slightly thick-walled conidia with a slightly pointed end and homogeneous content.
Herbarium material available: JTP2135/24.
