Ischnoderma resinosum
(Schrad.) P.Karst.

Study description
A species associated with Fagus, with microscopic features identical to Ischnoderma benzoinum (the latter restricted to conifers), found on a fallen log of Fagus sylvatica.
Dimitic hyphal system: skeletal-like hyphae dominant in the context, very thick-walled, 3-9 µm wide, unbranched; generative hyphae more abundant in the subhymenium, thin- to slightly thick-walled, 3-5 µm wide, septate with clamped septa.
Contextual hyphae showing no apparent reaction in Melzer's reagent or KOH.
Basidia small, 12-18 µm long and 4.5-6 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores not observed; according to literature smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 5-7 x 1.5-2 µm, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2321/24.
