Inocybe whitei
(Berk. & Broome) Sacc.

Study description
An Inocybe preferring conifers, with flesh reddening upon handling, a stipe slightly swollen at the base, and caulocystidia restricted to the upper stipe.
Pileipellis composed of hyphae arranged parallelly to slightly interwoven, 4-7 µm wide, with faint brownish-ochraceous encrusting intracellular pigment, septate and clamped.
Caulocystidia present only on the upper third of the stipe, cylindric-clavate to fusiform, some with apical crystallizations.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, 40-60 µm long and 15-20 µm wide, wall thickness up to 3 µm, with apical crystallizations, intermixed with thin-walled, sterile clavate cells.
Pleurocystidia scattered, very similar in morphology and dimensions to cheilocystidia.
Basidia clavate, 25-35 µm long and 9-10 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal to amygdaliform, smooth- and thick-walled, yellowish-brown under the microscope, with an inconspicuous eccentric apiculus at one end and internal guttules.
