Study description
A species typical of conifers, though not exclusive to them, with an ochraceous-brown cap with radial fibrils, a central umbo, and a bulbous stipe.
Pileipellis composed of parallel filamentous hyphae, 5-8 µm wide, with yellowish intracellular pigment and abundant brown surface incrustations, septate and clamped.
Caulocystidia present over the entire stipe surface, fusiform to lageniform, with apical incrustations.
Cheilocystidia scattered, fusiform, 40-50 µm long and 12-17 µm wide, walls up to 2.5 µm thick, generally with apical crystalline incrustations, intermixed with shorter, subglobose to pyriform non-crystallized paracystidia.
Pleurocystidia similar, 50-60 µm long and 16-21 µm wide, with apical crystallizations like the cheilocystidia; cystidial walls turn yellowish in 10% KOH mounts.
Basidia clavate, 25-32 µm long and 8-10 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores very irregular, oblong, with obtuse nodulose protuberances, thick-walled, yellowish-brown under the microscope, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
