Study description

A species preferring calcareous soils, associated with deciduous trees, with a radially fibrillose cap, and nodulose spores with very prominent star-like projections.

Pileipellis composed of parallelly arranged filamentous hyphae, 4-8 µm wide, with yellowish-brown intracellular pigment, abundant fine light brown surface incrustations, septate with clamped septa.

Caulocystidia distributed over the entire stipe surface, reaching up to 80 µm long, morphologically similar to the cheilocystidia.

Cheilocystidia fusiform, ventricose, 40-70 µm long and 18-27 µm wide, with walls up to 3 µm thick, and abundant apical crystallizations.

Pleurocystidia very similar in morphology and dimensions to cheilocystidia.

Basidia clavate, 30-35 µm long and 10-13 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.

Spores subglobose to ovoid, moderately thick-walled, with very prominent projections giving a star-like appearance (hence the specific epithet), yellowish-brown under the microscope, with a pointed, slightly more hyaline apiculus at one end.
