Hypoxylon haematostroma
Mont.

Study description
A tropical Hypoxylon studied in both its conidial and sexual or teleomorphic stages, yielding reddish-orange extractable pigments in KOH.
With a Nodulisporium-like conidiogenous structure.
Conidiophores composed of verrucose-walled hyphae, with brownish intracellular pigment and very abundant minute darker incrustations.
Conidia ovoid to short ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, delicately verruculose-walled, with faint granular internal content.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, uniseriate, up to 200 µm long and 6-9 µm wide, with all spores concentrated in the upper half of the ascus, and an amyloid apical apparatus in Melzer's reagent.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, flattened on one side, brown under the microscope, with a straight germ slit occupying almost the entire spore length, and a perispore dehiscent in KOH.
Herbarium material available: JTP2393/25 and 2627/25.
