A species of highly variable size, with a viscid cap and deeply rooting stipe.
Cellular pileipellis composed of subglobose, pyriform to vesiculose, even lanceolate hyphae, thin- to moderately thick-walled, large (up to 60 µm or more in diameter), with brown intracellular pigment inside.
Caulocystidia present only on the upper stipe, clavate, slightly thick-walled, 40-90 µm long and 5-11 µm wide.
Cheilocystidia abundant, fusiform to clavate, large, up to 130 µm long and 20-28 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia scattered, clavate, moderately thick-walled, up to 120 µm long and 30-40 µm wide.
Basidia cylindric-clavate, 45-55 µm long and 10-14 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores ovoid to ellipsoidal, with one end more pointed at the apiculus, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, containing internal oil droplets, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
