(Sowerby) Spirin, Miettinen & K.H.Larss.

Study description
Formerly known as Hymenochaete tabacina, with resupinate to effused-reflexed, tobacco-colored basidiomes.
Monomitic hyphal system, with generative hyphae thin- to slightly thick-walled, 3-8 µm wide, hyaline or with faint brownish intracellular pigment, septate with simple septa (clampless).
Hymenial setae projecting well above the level of the basidia, very thick-walled, very dark brown, some with slight surface incrustations.
Basidia subcylindrical to clavate, 17-22 µm long and 3-4.5 µm wide, without basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores not observed, according to literature cylindrical to slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 5-6.5 x 1.5-2 µm.
Very similar to its congener, the common Hymenochaete rubiginosa, the latter possessing broader spores and shorter hymenial setae, 40-60 µm long.
Herbarium material available: JTP2596/25.
