Hyaloscypha aureliella
(Nyl.) Huhtinen

Study description
A very common species on coniferous wood, especially Pinus, which is easily overlooked due to its tiny size.
Marginal hairs hyaline, cylindrical, gradually tapering, covered with a characteristic resinous exudate composed of golden granules.
Ectal and marginal excipulum composed of hyphae of textura globulosa-angularis, hyaline and thick-walled.
Asci cylindrical to clavate, 8-spored, with biseriate to irregular spore arrangement concentrated in the upper ascus, 40-50 µm long and 5-7 µm wide, with croziers at their base, and an amyloid reaction in iodinated compounds of their minute apical apparatus.
Paraphyses scarce, filiform, cylindrical, without apical swellings, similar in length to asci but only up to just over 2.5 µm wide.
Ascospores cylindrical to subfusiform, some slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with only faint granular internal content.
