Herpotrichia macrotricha
(Berk. & Broome) Sacc.

Study description
Ascomata appearing as small black mucronate pustules fruiting en masse on a slender stem.
Asci cylindrical, slightly tapered at the base, 8-spored, generally biseriate or with irregular spore arrangement in the upper ascus, up to 140 µm long, 12-15 µm wide, lacking an amyloid apical ring (inamyloid).
Interascal material abundant as very slender, filiform pseudoparaphyses, only up to 1.8 µm wide, septate and virtually hyaline.
Ascospores fusiform, 1-3-septate (occasionally up to 5-septate), with a distinct constriction at the central septum, containing oil droplets in the cells, enveloped in a gelatinous sheath that becomes more visible in Lactophenol Cotton Blue.
