Pileipellis with superficial filamentous hyphae, hyaline, 1.5-5 µm wide, widely separated by gelification, septate with clamp connections; beneath these lie much broader and compacted polymorphic hyphae, cylindrical to vesiculose, with short septa and yellowish intracellular pigment inside.
Cheilocystidia cylindrical, sinuous, some slightly swollen at the base, up to 80 µm long and 6-10 µm wide.
Basidia cylindric-clavate, 26-38 µm long and 8-10 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores citriform to amygdaliform, slightly verrucose-walled, yellow under the microscope, with an eccentric apiculus at one end, strongly dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent, turning very dark reddish-brown.
