Gymnopilus picreus
(Pers.) P.Karst.

Study description
Pileipellis composed of filamentous hyphae arranged more or less parallel, slightly interwoven, with intracellular pigment and yellowish-brown incrustations, 4-10 µm wide, septate and with clamp connections at the septa.
Caulocystidia cylindrical, abundant on the upper stipe in tufts, up to 50 µm long, with capitate to subcapitate apices.
Cheilocystidia very abundant, mostly fusiform, with a long neck and rounded apices, up to 40 µm long, some of them subcapitate.
Pleurocystidia scarce, scattered, with morphology and dimensions similar to cheilocystidia, slightly more ventricose.
Basidia cylindrical to slightly clavate, up to 30 µm long, with basal clamps, 2- or 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, thick-walled and slightly verrucose, golden-yellow under the microscope with abundant slightly darker warts, an inconspicuous eccentric apiculus at one end, moderately dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent.
