Study description

The photobiont is a unicellular green alga of the genus Trebouxia.

Asci cylindric-clavate, 8-spored, with spore arrangement between biseriate and irregular internally, with amyloid reaction in the apical zone.

Paraphyses slender, hyaline, smooth-walled, mostly simple or rarely bifurcate in the terminal cells, multi-septate, with a swelling in the terminal cell giving a capitate appearance, the surface covered by an encrusting amber pigment that turns violaceous in KOH.

Ascospores cylindric-ellipsoidal, mostly with one end slightly more pointed, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with a slight central constriction and abundant granular internal content.
