Asci cylindrical and clavate, 8-spored, with a completely spherical, very distinctive apical apparatus.
Immature ascospores hyaline, cylindrical, curved to sigmoid, with hyaline appendages and droplets inside.
Mature ascospores heavily pigmented, ellipsoidal to slightly fusiform, 1-septate, the short cell bearing a hyaline appendage (pedicel).
