Brunneoporus kuzyanus

(Pilát) Audet

Microscopía de Brunneoporus kuzyanus

Study description

Hyphal system dimitic, with abundant thick-walled skeletal hyphae and thin-walled clamped generative hyphae.

Without observed cystidia.

Basidia clavate and 4-spored.

Spores large considering the genus, ellipsoidal, smooth, thin-walled, with a lateral apiculus and generally with a depression below it, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.

Herbarium material available: JTP2142/24.

Observations: Identification made following scrupulously the 2017 work of Ryvarden, which leads to Antrodia malicola. According to the Index Fungorum criterion, Antrodia malicola should currently be called Fomitopsis malicola, an epithet not recognized as such by GBIF; according to the GBIF criterion, Antrodia malicola should currently be called Brunneoporus kuzyanus, and according to Index Fungorum, Brunneoporus kuzyanus would be the current name for Antrodia kuzyana. I understand that the differences between both (Antrodia malicola and Antrodia kuzyana) would be very subtle, an opinion shared by Ryvarden himself (although in his work he shows them separately) and it is very likely that today, based on molecular data, both are treated as synonyms, and if they appear separately in Index Fungorum, this is due only to a lack of updating.
