Study description
Tiny perithecia resembling subglobose black grains, only 0.3 to 0.5 mm in diameter, appearing on debarked wood lying on the ground.
Pseudoparaphyses dense, very long, 1 µm wide, embedded in mucilage, branched and protruding above the level of the asci.
Asci bitunicate, cylindrical to narrowly fusiform, with a short pedicel, 110 to 150 µm long, 11 to 13 µm wide, with a small, discrete apical apparatus barely visible in water, without any reaction in Melzer's reagent.
Ascospores obliquely uniseriate in the ascus and partially overlapping, broad, fusiform with pointed ends, hyaline, two-celled, deeply constricted at the median septum, 25 to 30 µm long and 6 to 8.5 µm wide. The upper cell is usually shorter and broader than the lower one, with four refractive globules, surrounded by a barely visible hyaline gelatinous sheath.
